After a weeks break I thought I'd change the format of Live and Uncut just a little, by inviting four friends from The Arcanum, Street Photography Cohort which is led by Valerie Jardin, to talk about our passion of Street Photography.
Firstly let me explain what The Arcanum is all about.
The Arcanum is the 'brainchild' of Trey Ratcliff, who is widely considered to be the most followed (over 5million) photographer on social networks worldwide. He came up with the idea of creating a form or teaching based on the school of apprenticeship, by creating Cohorts (groups) that would be headed by a Master, for photographers to develop their skills and learn not only from their masters but also accept critique from their fellow apprentices. Our Cohort chosen by Valerie Jardin (who is a worldwide Street Photographer workshop host) was one of the initial groups set up for 'beta' testing. I understand that Valerie had up to a thousand applicants to choose from and through her process of illumination chose us and 18 others, for a Cohort specialising in 'Street Photography'. You can imagine our total delight in being chosen but then to go on and experience new friendships, comments. critique, new ideas, being set targets and projects has been, well, truly amazing! It hasn't been a bed of roses for some that initially joined though. Those with work commitments have had to drop out and others felt that they weren't achieving enough but this is all part of the process of being a 'beta'. But for me as I have mentioned in a previous blog being part of this Cohort, I have seen more quality street photography than I ever did in 5 years of being a member of my local camera club.
The Arcanum a wonderful simplistic idea that will go on from strength to strength learning about photography, improving skills recognising quality work and at the same time building great friendships. Who would of thought just a few years ago I could be learning about photography from a master in Minnesota and have fellow apprentices that I prefer to call friends from all over the world Milan, Tennessee, Dublin, Glasgow, Sydney, Germany and Ukraine to mention just a few places.
This episode concentrates on our passion of street photography we talk about how we got into it, our gear, where we like to shoot, what we like and what we are uncomfortable shooting. We also talk about where we feel we are struggling and the difficulties we are experiencing.
All I can say is I thoroughly enjoyed talking to these guys who are a wonderful representation of our Street Photography Cohort in The Arcanum.
Until next time...
